Tokina recently announced its new Cinema Vista 100mm T2.9 Macro lens. This is a new version of the previous Cinema 100mm but with telephoto ability.
The new lens covers Vista Vision sensors and this was something that its predecessor Cinema 100mm lacked. With that in mind, the Cinema Vista 100mm T2.9 Macro offers an area definition of 46.7mm and is designed for both full-frame and Vista Vision sensors.
This new optic is also a 1:1 macro lens with a minimum focus distance of 30 cm or 11.9 inches. These qualities give it make the Cinema Vista 100mm a macro with telephoto aspects.
Tokina’s new Cinema Vista 100mm comes built inside a robust metal body with a nine-bladed iris for high-quality bokeh. Its iris rings and gear focus also happen to be dampened, delivering a long focus throw that improved accuracy and (according to Tokina) minimized lens breathing.
Weight-wise, the Cinema Vista 100mm T2.9 Macro is on the heavy side though, with a weight of 1.3 kg or 46.2 ounces. It has a front diameter of 95mm and a filter thread size of 86mm. Its size certainly makes for a lens that isn’t light during field use.
On the other hand, the Cinema Vista 100mm T2.9 Macro is very versatile in its compatibility, with an interchangeable mount that comes in PL, Canon EF, Sony E, and MFT versions.
Tokina hasn’t yet released any information about the release date of the Cinema Vista 100mm T2.9 lens, or about its eventual price. However it should start shipping soon and, as is typical of Tokina lenses, it won’t be low-cost.
