Fujifilm Has Launched The GFX Challenge 2024 For Australia & NZ

Fujifilm is inviting aspiring Australian photo and video creators to apply for the iconic camera company’s GFX Challenge Grant Program.

The 2024 GFX Challenge is offering a total of nearly $150,000 AUD in grants for aspiring creators showcasing their best work. It also delivers a chance to boost or kick off their careers with support from the powerful Fujifilm brand.

The GFX Challenge has been set up with five global and ten regional grant programs up for grabs. Through these, individual winning submissions can receive up to over $14,000 for their projects.

The Fujifilm GFX Challenge has been active since 2021 and is designed to nurture emerging photo and video talent by supporting individual creators through multiple grant awards each year.

For the 2024 grant program, five winning recipients within the global award program will each receive just over $14,800 AUD ($10,000 USD) while ten regional grant winners will each be awarded over $7,000 AUD ($5,000 USD) each.

Furthermore, all winning content from both the global and regional grant award winners will be showcased in a live exhibition organized by Fujifilm while also going on display on the Fujifilm-X.com website.

Several previous award winners in past GFX challenges have made successful careers for themselves after their entries. These include photographers like Tania Malkin (a 2022 grant winner) and Katelyn Neilson.

According to Shaun Mah, General Manager of the Electronic Imaging & Optical Devices Division at Fujifilm Australia,

At Fujifilm, we’re passionate about inspiring creativity and curiosity through the lens of photography – and that’s why we’re really excited to be bringing the Fujifilm GFX Challenge back again this year. The Challenge presents a rare opportunity for content creators to bring a passion project of theirs to life – and with the mentoring and financial backing of an established photography brand too. We can’t wait to see this year’s collection of creative entries and are delighted by the prospect of helping Australian creatives unlock their potential.”

The 2024 Fujifilm GFX Challenge is now open and will continue to accept entries right until September 15th. Interested photographers and video creators can apply at the Fujifilm GFX Challenge website.

Entry is open to all residents of Australia and New Zealand and both amateur and professional photographers/video creators are welcome to apply.

As of September 16 until October 4, a 1st, Fujifilm will conduct a 1st Round review of submissions to select a total of 45 submissions from across 3 geographical regions. These will be evaluated again during the 2nd round.

As of October 10, Regional finalists will be informed via email, and interviews with each will be scheduled via Zoom or an equivalent video conferencing platform.

From October 11 to 25, Fujifilm will conduct its second round of evaluations and select 5 finalists from each geographical region for a total of 15 selected finalists.

These 15 will be given a final round of evaluations in which the five global winners will be selected for a $14,000+ AUD award. The remaining 10 finalists will obtain regional grants of $5,000.

A public announcement of all award recipients will go live in January of 2025.

Global Grand winners will receive $14,804 AUD as their cash prize and be allowed to use a GFX System camera with two GF lenses for the duration of their winning project. They’ll also receive mentoring and technical assistance from Fujifilm technicians.

Regional Grant winners will have access to the same GFX camera plus lenses and the same mentoring from Fujifilm camera experts along with their $7,405 AUD cash grants.

Once again, if you’re a resident of Australia or New Zealand, you can apply here.

This is a particularly notable and interesting opportunity for increasing your creator presence and enrolling in a high-profile award program. The GFX Challenge also offers reasonably good selection odds by the standards of many major photo/video awards.
