Introduction
The Fujifilm XF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR is a new professional super-telephoto prime lens for Fujifilm’s X-series range of APS-C format mirrorless cameras.
The Fujifilm 500mm lens boasts an angle-of-view range similar to that of a 762mm lens in a 35mm system and features a maximum aperture of f/5.6.
The optical construction is very similar to the GF medium format version, comprised of 21 elements in 14 groups, including two Super ED and five ED glass lens elements to reduce chromatic aberrations.
It has a traditional aperture ring on the lens barrel running from f/5.6 to f/22, which allows you to set the aperture in 1/3 steps.
Other highlights include optical image stabilisation (O.I.S) worth up to 5 stops, weather-resistant construction with 20 sealing points throughout the lens body, a fluorine coating on the front element for water and smudge resistance, and a weight of just 1,335g.
It also boasts a close-focus point of 2.75m and 0.2x magnification, an iris diaphragm with 9 rounded blades, an inner focusing system, and a high-speed linear AF motor that enables rapid and precise autofocus in speeds as fast as 0.33 seconds.
This lens is fully compatible with Fuji’s 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, which when fitted increase the maximum focal length to 700mm (equivalent to 1067mm in 35mm format) and 1000mm (equivalent to 1524mm in 35mm format) respectively.
The Fujifilm XF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR lens is priced at for £2899 / $2999 in the UK and the US, respectively and will be available from 28th November 2024.
